JUBA, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- South Sudan's main referral hospital said on Tuesday that they have received specialized equipment from China to aid cancer treatment amid rising mortality cases due to lack of medicine and specialist treatment.

"We just received new equipment for cancer last week from China. The specialists will come from China to open the screening center soon. We don't want our people to die of cancer which is treatable," said Maker Isaac, director at the Juba Teaching Hospital.

"The (Chinese) experts have not yet arrived but will arrive when we fix the equipment to start the screening of cancer. This center will not only serve Juba but other states in South Sudan," he added.

He disclosed some South Sudanese doctors will be trained to use the equipment.

"More doctors are going to be trained as specialists for cancer treatment from different states in order to reduce on the cost of referrals abroad," said Isaac, adding that they still lack medicines for cancer treatment at the facility.

China is also supporting the expansion and rehabilitation of the Juba Teaching Hospital.
