BANGKOK, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- The Thai Digital Economy and Society Ministry on Friday announced that 40 state officials will be manning a newly-established "Counter-fake-news center" in November.

Digital Economy and Society Minister Buddhipongse Punnakanta said the center's staff would monitor news sources including social media, verifying facts and responding to sources with facts instead.

"It actually takes two hours to verify and determine the claims," said Buddhipongse, and then the "Counter-fake-news center" will create an infographic outlining the facts.

The minister said infographics are effective means of sharing correct information.

The center will look at several areas on which fake news is commonly circulated, including natural disasters, financial and economic matters, health products and illicit goods, as well as government policies, said Buddhipongse.

The minister reiterated that the center's goal is to only counter fake claims, not to bring legal action against the sources.
