ADDIS ABABA, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Ambassador to Eritrea Yang Zigang in an interview broadcast on Eritrea's state owned TV channel Eri-TV on Monday hailed the constructive bilateral relations between the two countries.

Yang said 2019 marks a special occasion for both Eritrea and China, with the two countries celebrating 26 years of diplomatic relations.

Yang further said China and Eritrea have become good friends and good partners and the fruitful ties will continue in the future.

"China has consistently supported Eritrea's nation building endeavors by providing Eritrea with many kinds of assistance."

"Bilateral pragmatic cooperation in various sectors has been constantly expanded, which has played a positive role in social and economic development of Eritrea," said Yang.

According to the Chinese embassy in Eritrea, over 200 Chinese doctors and other health professionals have provided free medical services in Eritrea since 1997.

Chinese media experts have also trained dozens of Eritrean media professionals in modern digital technology, showcasing the depth and diversity of the two countries ties.

"Mutually beneficial people-to-people cultural exchanges between China and Eritrea have been expanded, with a series of programs in cultural, sports and educational fields," said Yang.

Yang also hailed the leadership of Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki and the ruling party, Eritrea People's Front for Democracy and Justice, for making positive progress in diplomatic, economic and social fields.

"Since 2018, Eritrea and Ethiopia achieved historic peace which creates a conducive environment for regional peace, stability and cooperation," he said.
