BANGKOK, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- The Thai cabinet said on Tuesday that it has approved the new State Railway of Thailand (SRT) board, which will be responsible for the signing of a high-speed train project linking Thailand's three major international airports on Oct. 25.

"I am very confident that the SRT and the Charoen Pokphand (CP) Group-led consortium will sign the high-speed train project on Oct. 25," said Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.

Anutin told the media that he had already spoken to Supachai Chearavanont, CEO of the CP group, and assured him of the government's full cooperation.

The deputy prime minister also said that the CP Group should quickly proceed with the high-speed train project without further delay as 70 percent of the land is ready to be handed over.

The CP-led consortium won a bid in mid 2019 to build the 7.36-billion-U.S. dollar high-speed railway linking Don Mueang, Suvarnabhumi and U-Tapao airports as part of a plan to develop the government's flagship Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) high-tech investment hub scheme.

The 220-km railway network is scheduled to be operational in 2024 with trains traveling at up to 250 km per hour.
