BERLIN, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- German online fashion retailer Zalando is seeking a "balanced" gender representation for its senior management, the company announced on Tuesday.

Zalando is aiming to have at least 40 percent of its top six management levels, including the management board and the supervisory board, to be staffed by woman by the end of 2023.

"We acknowledge that today we lack diversity in our senior management, and we are committed to changing this," said Zalando CEO Rubin Ritter.

Ritter said Zalando "strongly believed" that only a "diverse and inclusive culture" would serve the customer base.

Since 2016, large listed companies in Germany have to fill at least 30 percent of vacant positions on their supervisory boards with women.
