BANGKOK, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Bangkok Mass Transit System (BTS)'s elevated rail system on Tuesday conducted the first trial run along a new stretch on the capital city's northern outskirts.

The trial run was successfully conducted from Lad Phrao Intersection station near a heavily congested Vibhavadi Rangsit road to Kasetsart University station, passing three other stations along the way.

The partial stretch of the BTS rail system between Lad Phrao and Kasetsart is scheduled to open to commuters in the upcoming December.

The full stretch up north to Khu Khot station in the outlying province of Pathum Thani, which is currently under construction, is expected to open for service by the end of next year.
