Two Kyrgyz universities enter list of best universities in Eastern Europe, Central Asia

BISHKEK, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Two Kyrgyz universities are now on a list of the best universities in Eastern Europe and Central Asia compiled by British education marketing company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), the Kyrgyz Ministry of Education and Science said Wednesday.

Two universities of Kyrgyzstan, namely American University of Central Asia and Kyrgyz-Turkish Manas University, were among the best 200 universities in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, ranking 163rd and 190th respectively, the ministry's press service said.

A total of 350 universities were included in the list and Russia's Lomonosov Moscow State University is on the top, according to the press service.

The list of 350 best universities was made taking into account several parameters, including the academic reputation of university, its reputation among employers and recognition of the scientific work of teachers and students.

There are 50 higher educational institutions in Kyrgyzstan, 31 of which are state-owned and 19 private.

The QS World University Rankings is regarded as one of the three most influential university rankings in the world, along with the Times Higher Education World University Rankings and the Academic Ranking of World Universities.
