MANSA, Zambia, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- Zambia should consider marketing its water transport to Chinese enterprises who are interested in investing in the industry, a senior government official said on Wednesday.

Nickson Chilangwa, Minister for Luapula Province, said the provincial administration is considering marketing the water bodies in the province, especially to the Chinese enterprises.

Chilangwa said the province has water bodies such as lakes whose mode of transport is ferries and boats.

According to Chilangwa, there is need to have various water transport firms for people to have a choice on which transport to use.

"We are going to target the Chinese to consider investing in our transport industry in the province," he said.

He said Chinese have proved to be investing in every sector of Zambia's economy, hence the need to promote and open up investment opportunities to the Asian country.

Chilangwa further said there are Chinese enterprises that have invested in manganese mining in the province and have created jobs for the locals.

"Luapula has abundant mineral resources such as manganese. We have investors that are mining and processing the mineral," he said.
