VIENNA, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- The Austrian government sees a potential Brexit extension as a possibility though the British government would need a good reason to ask for one, senior officials said on Wednesday.
Austria Press Agency quoted Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg as saying that no "blank cheque" would be issued for a rescheduling of the Oct. 31 date.
Schallenberg said Austria's main interests in the deal are maintaining legal certainty and fair conditions of competition with Britain.
The British government vowed to take the country out of the European Union on Oct. 31, with or without a deal.
Austrian Chancellor Brigitte Bierlein said Austria is well prepared for a no-deal Brexit, though an extension to the process is currently perhaps a more likely outcome.
