Myanmar's state counselor stresses need to produce outstanding experts to serve country

YANGON, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi has stressed the need to produce outstanding experts and technicians to serve the country, according to the Ministry of Education Thursday.

Suu Kyi made the remarks when addressing the Conference on Implementing Development of Universities-2019 which began in Nay Pyi Taw Wednesday.

Development of human resources, including the young generation, is a vital need for the country as they will perform state duties in the future, said Suu Kyi, adding that the government is striving for harmonious development of basic and higher education and for promoting the country's education up to the international level.

She maintained that education is a lifelong process and a necessary investment for socio-economic development of the country.

She expressed the government's encouragement in research work, invention and vocational training in developing the education up to the global standard with quality education assured in the development of national education.

There are 174 universities in Myanmar under the management of eight ministries.

Myanmar is implementing the National Education Strategy (2016-21) for the emergence of quality education in the country and the education conference is aimed at supporting the sector.
