BEIRUT, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- French Ambassador to Lebanon Bruno Foucher launched a campaign by granting PhD scholarships to Lebanese researchers to boost scientific exchange between the two countries, the National News Agency reported Thursday.

"PhD students will be able to do their researches in Lebanon and France at the same time which will allow both countries to benefit from their skills and talents," Foucher said during a celebration held at the Pine Residence in Beirut.

The ambassador explained that his campaign, named "Welcome to France," aims at allowing an increasing number of foreign students to continue their education in France by providing two thirds of the cost of education.

"We are the first country to host around 5,565 Lebanese students currently studying in France," he said.

He added that Lebanese students who come to France can benefit from an extended training offer, if necessary, to take one of the 500 courses now offered in France in a foreign language, and the diplomas they gain will be more valuable in France and other countries.

On Friday, the Ecole Superieure des Affaires will open the Destination France Fair where 36 French universities will introduce their educational programs to local students.
