Large haul of narcotic drugs busted in Myanmar

YANGON, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar police busted a large haul of narcotic drugs including stimulants, powders and other materials used in drug-making, according to a release from the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC) on Saturday.

Acting on a tip-off, 399,000 stimulant tablets worth 798 million kyats (532,000 U.S. dollars) were seized from two motorcycles, along with two suspects in Maungtaw township, Rakhine state late Friday.

A woman who was the owner of the stimulants was also captured later on that day.

Meanwhile in Tachileik township, Shan state on Tuesday, 2,000 stimulant tablets, 163 kg of stimulant powder worth 1.63 billion kyats (1.08 million U.S. dollars) were confiscated by the military personnel, along with 553 kg of caffeine, 85.6 kg of white, red powders used in making drugs, some promethazine and methyl alcohol acid and related materials.

The authorities opened a case for further investigation to capture the suspects under the country's Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, the committee's release said.
