ABUJA, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- Seven people, including two children, were killed in an auto crash involving the convoy of a Nigerian governor early Saturday in the southern part of the country.
Local police, while confirming the incident along the Benin-Auchi expressway in the southern state of Edo, said at least three others were injured.
A security van in the advance team of Godwin Obaseki, the governor of Edo, had a head-on collision with another car coming from the opposite direction while heading toward the venue of an event to be attended by the state governor, the police said.
Danmallam Mohammed, the state's police chief, described the incident as "unfortunate."
The injured victims were rushed to a local hospital in Benin City, capital of the state, for adequate treatment, he said.
