WARSAW, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Poland's governing Law and Justice Party (PiS) challenged on Tuesday the results in six constituencies in elections for parliament's upper house (Senate), where its candidates have lost to the opposition.

Jadwiga Emilewicz, minister of entrepreneurship and technology, told Polish media on Tuesday that in one of the constituencies the PiS candidate had lost by 300 votes, while 1,000 other votes had been invalidated.

"Can we ask this question? We can," the minister commented, referring to doubts voiced by the opposition as to the legality of PiS'effort to challenge the results.

In the Oct. 13 elections, PiS won the majority of seats in the Sejm, the more powerful lower house in the Polish parliament, but lost control of the Senate, where 51 seats went to the opposition parties and 49 to PiS.

Emilewicz also confirmed that the governing party was talking to senators from the opposition to join forces with the PiS.

The PiS challenged the results of the Senate vote in the Supreme Court, and the complaint will be assessed by the Chamber of Extraordinary Control and Public Affairs there, a new body created by the PiS during the controversial judicial reforms it implemented after coming to power in 2015.

Grzegorz Schetyna, leader of the Civic Coalition, the largest opposition force, told media on Tuesday, "There are no reasons, no rational reasons, to count the votes again."

Schetyna said that he is asking observers from the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), who monitored the general elections in Poland, to take part in the monitoring of the potential vote recount as well.
