SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Alaska Airlines and PenAir have temporarily suspended local flights in Alaska to the island of Unalaska in the wake of a fatal plane crash that killed a man, a local newspaper said Tuesday.
The flight suspension to and from Dutch Harbor was in "the interest of safety," the Anchorage Daily News (ADN) quoted Alaska Airlines as saying, after Flight 3296 of PenAir, whose service was marketed by Alaska Airlines, crashed at Unalaska airport on Oct. 17.
The accident killed a male passenger from Washington state, and injured several others.
Alaska Airlines said it is working with PenAir to "determine a timeline for resuming service to Unalaska, Alaska."
ADN said some travelers were stranded after the regular flights were canceled. Alaska Airlines offers two or three flights from Anchorage to Dutch Harbor in Unalaska every day.
