SOFIA, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- The Bulgarian Embassy in London is in contact with the British authorities to clarify the case involving the 39 people found dead in a truck in England's Essex, the press office of Bulgaria's Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.

"The British police have been contacted and a representative of our embassy has also had a meeting at the Foreign Office in London," the press office said.

Bulgarian Ambassador in London Marin Raykov has called Emma Hopkins, the United Kingdom's ambassador in Sofia, and the two agreed to follow up on the case together, the press office said.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Essex Police said on its website that "we believe the lorry is from Bulgaria," citing Chief Superintendent Andrew Mariner.

However, according to the press office of Bulgaria's Foreign Ministry, "at present, it has not yet been confirmed whether the truck has a Bulgarian registration."

"There is also no indication of the nationality of the human bodies found in the truck. British police have warned that the identification of the bodies will take a long time," the Bulgarian ministry's press office added.
