JAKARTA, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia will hold world-class events such as major art festivals, musical performances and sport events in a bid to lure huge numbers of tourists, the Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Wishnutama Kusubandio said on Wednesday.
"There will be many events we can seriously conduct in the future, in which they could become great pull factors to attract visitors," he said in his office in Jakarta.
The television veteran who was appointed as minister on Wednesday thinks that first-class events could become sparks to lure international tourists in the archipelago of 17,000 islands.
"Tomorrowland festival in Belgium can be a good example. It actually relies on its grasslands; however, the festival can be incredibly attractive. We have more than that," he said, referring to one of the world's largest and most notable music festivals.
Indonesia will hold the world's premier motorcycle racing class MotoGP in Mandalika, West Nusa Tenggara, in 2021.
The government has set a target to attract 100,000 visitors to Mandalika, one of the government's new Bali destinations, along with Lake Toba in North Sumatra, Borobudur Temple in Central Java, Mount Bromo in East Java and Komodo Island in East Nusa Tenggara.
