BANGKOK, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- Thailand's state irrigation division on Thursday advised residents throughout the country to save water as the dry season will begin on Nov. 1.

On its website and social media platforms, the Thai Royal Irrigation Department (RID) said it will begin to limit water distribution in the upcoming dry season as it warns of water shortages in many farming zones.

Thongplew Kongjun, director-general of RID, said reservoirs countrywide are experiencing water shortage, with only 30,126 million cubic meters as of Oct. 30.

"Please follow the Royal Irrigation Department's distribution plan of his department so that there would be enough water for consumption until the next rainy season," said Thongplew. "There are only water from four main dams in the Chao Phraya river basin that are enough only for consumption, ecosystem conservation and fruit trees."

The RID head also advised farmers to reduce fish and shrimp breeding along the Chao Phraya river basin and in Ping, Nan, Chao Phraya, Noi, Pasak and Tha Chin rivers.
