2 soldiers killed in attack in central province of Burkina Faso

OUAGADOUGOU, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- An explosive device attack on Wednesday claimed the lives of two soldiers of Burkina Faso army in central-northern of the terrorism-torn country, security source on Thursday told Xinhua in the capital Ouagadougou.

A military convoy from Djibo heading to Ougadougou was subject to an improvised explosive device on the road axis linking Djibo, in the Soum province, and Namsiguia, in the central-north Bam province, about 160 km north to Ouagadougou, security source said.

According to the same source, two soldiers were killed following the explosion.

Soum and Bam provinces are in the most troubled Sahel region of Burkina that sees terrorist attacks nearly every day, despite declared curfew and scaled up security measures.

Since 2015, a spate of terrorist attacks straining Burkina Faso has killed about 500 people and internally displaced thousands of others.
