Italian Physicist Carlo Rubbia awarded commemorative medal for 70th anniversary of PRC founding

ROME, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- Italian physicist Carlo Rubbia has been presented at the Chinese Embassy in Italy a commemorative medal for the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC).

As a laureate of the 1984 Nobel Prize in Physics, Rubbia has put forward the concept of energy amplifier and provided new theories for the development of new energy, making prominent achievements in the field of particle physics experiments.

Over more than 30 years, Rubbia has been committed to promoting cooperation between Europe and China in science and technology, which has led to a series of important achievements. He won the 2015 International Science and Technology Cooperation Award of the PRC.

At the award ceremony on Wednesday, Chinese Ambassador to Italy Li Junhua commended Prof. Rubbia as an outstanding representative of Sino-Italian scientific and technological cooperation.

This award is an embodiment of China's recognition and appreciation for Rubbia's efforts, said the ambassador, who expressed the hope that Rubbia would continue to advance the innovative cooperation in science and technology between the two countries.

Rubbia said it was a great honor to have participated in and witnessed the development of China's scientific and technological innovation. He is willing to work with Chinese partners to build more platforms for the cooperation in science and technology and talent exchanges between Europe and China, providing support for a sustainable world.

The commemorative medals for the 70th anniversary of the founding of the PRC are awarded to those who made outstanding contribution to the founding and development of the PRC.
