KATHMANDU, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- A three-day exhibition "China-Nepal Thangka Arts and Works" is being held here, bringing Chinese and Nepali thangka artists together on the same platform.
The event, organized by World Cultural Net, in cooperation with the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, has featured 20 art works by Chinese artists and 10 by Nepali artists at the premise of Nepal Academy.
Inaugurating the ceremony on Friday, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Hou Yanqi said that such exhibitions help to enhance the people to people relations between the two neighboring countries.
The event would help Nepali people to learn about Chinese thangka art and would contribute in the promotion and preservation of this cultural entity.
In the Tibetan language, thangka means displaying the various forms of Buddha in the limited space, which is also called heavy color cloth scroll painting. It includes various subject matters in fields such as history, religion, culture, medicine and folk custom.
On the occasion, K.K. Karmacharya, chancellor of Nepal Academy of Fine Arts which is an umbrella organization of Nepali artists, art researchers and art critics, appreciated the way Chinese and Nepali thangka arts are expanding across the world together.
"I am confident that this exhibition will not just strengthen the cultural relations between the two countries but will also complement the historical ties and friendship," Karmacharya remarked.
More than 100 people from different walks of life and professions visited the exhibition on the inaugural day. In the sideline of the exhibition, there will be a lecture session by Chinese thangka artists on Saturday, according to the organizer.
The exhibition will conclude on Sunday.
