TUNIS, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Embassy in Tunisia has held a ceremony to welcome the 24th batch of Chinese medical team to Tunisia and bid farewell to the members of the 23rd batch.

Chinese Ambassador to Tunisia Wang Wenbin said at the welcoming ceremony that Chinese medical team is the messenger of health and friendship.

Since 1973, China has been sending medical teams to Tunisia, including doctors in obstetrics, gynecology, pediatrics, orthopedics, ophthalmology, and acupuncture.

He added that Chinese medical teams have provided more than 5 million outpatient services to Tunisian people and performed more than 320,000 operations since 1973.

The Office Director of Tunisia's Health Ministry Mounir Romdhani said at the ceremony that Chinese medical teams have worked hard for more than 40 years, which makes it possible for Tunisian people to enjoy the superb medical skills of Chinese doctors.

He expressed the gratefulness of Tunisian government for the equipment and facilities provided by Chinese government, stressing that his country has benefited from the training of medical personnel and medical managers from Chinese side.

Romdhani hoped that both sides can further deepen cooperation in the medical field in the future.

The 23rd batch of medical team from China's Jiangxi province came to Tunisia in November 2018. In the past year, it has carried out more than 80,000 outpatient services, more than 7,000 operations and more than 50 free clinics, which were warmly welcomed by the local people.
