YAOUNDE, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- A landslide that occurred in Yaounde, Cameroon's capital city at about 6 a.m. on Monday has left one person dead and several others injured, according to rescuers.

The deceased, a middle-aged woman who teaches German was unearthed by rescuers at the Ngousso neighbourhood of Yaounde where the tragedy happened.

The landslide hit Ngousso following heavy downpour that triggered floods, causing extensive property damage and creating pile of mud.

Officials have expressed concern that "more people" are "probably" still trapped under rubble in the affected neighbourhood.

The search and rescue is still underway.

Those injured are receiving medical attention and are in good condition according to local authorities.

Cameroon is in the midst of a rainy season which started in April and is expected to last until mid-November, which occasionally causes landslides in some parts of the Central African country.

In a separate landslide that lashed the western city of Bafoussam last week, 43 were confirmed dead and several others were reported as still missing. Rescue operations are still in progress in the area.
