VILNIUS, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- The scheduled meeting of Lithuanian Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis and his Norway's counterpart Erna Solberg was cancelled on Monday due to Skvernelis' health issues, a government official was quoted as saying by local media on Monday.
Back in August, Skvernelis confirmed that he had been diagnosed with lymphoma, a type of blood cancer, therefore needed to undergo treatment.
"During the entire treatment period, the PM took five days of sick leave, most of them were related to scheduled medical procedures. On Monday, the PM took the sixth day of sick leave, which was not planned in advance," Skirmantas Malinauskas, the prime minister's communication adviser, was quoted as saying.
According to a decree signed earlier by Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda, Skvernelis has the possibility of getting sick leave if scheduled medical procedures require so or if the health condition prevents him from working.
"The prime minister plans to return to work as soon as possible," Malinauskas added.
The prime ministers of Lithuania and Norway planned to discuss bilateral cooperation in the areas of economy, regional security and defence, energy security and other fields, as well as exchange opinions on the European and international agendas.
