Bangladesh Denim Expo kicks off under theme of "responsibility"

DHAKA, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- The 11th edition of "Bangladesh Denim Expo" has been under way in the Bangladesh capital of Dhaka to promote the Bangladeshi denim products.

The exhibition, which is being held in collaboration with H&M Group, a Swedish multinational clothing-retailer, has been offering unique panel of companies exhibiting their products and practices on the theme of this year's expo, "responsibility."

A total of 100 exhibitors from 11 countries including host Bangladesh took part in the exhibition.

The mega event is showcasing the latest denim fabrics and denim-made garment items of nearly 100 local and international companies.

Bangladesh Apparel Exchange (BAE) organized the mega show which is expected to see some 10,000 visitors.

According to the organizer, the expo is aimed at showcasing Bangladesh's growth potential in the denim industry.

The inaugural edition of Bangladesh Denim Expo took place on Nov. 11-12, 2014, in Dhaka.

The show offers international fashion buyers a one-stop sourcing platform for all aspects of jeans wear.

Exclusive to authorized trade visitors, the expo acts as a hub for players on the international denim scene to mingle with colleagues, make new contacts and broker deals.

Modern facets of the industry, including health & safety, sustainability and education, are discussed, and future mega-trends presented.

"We're expecting an increased number of exhibitors and visitors from home and abroad this time, said Mostafiz Uddin, founder and chief executive officer of the Bangladesh Denim Expo.

Apart from Bangladesh, there are other participating countries - China, Italy, India, Japan, Singapore, Brazil, Spain, Pakistan, Turkey and Germany.

The theme "responsibility" will be addressing the level of social, environmental and economic responsibility the apparel industry holds to ensure products are produced in the most ethical, environmentally friendly and sustainable manner, the statement said.

It said that there will be two separate masterclass sessions to be conducted by Piero Turk, a renowned denim designer.
