NEW DELHI, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- India on Thursday asked Pakistan to make adequate security arrangements for important dignitaries that would be part of the first group of Sikh pilgrims visiting Kartarpur.
"We requested that there are important dignitaries who are travelling as part of inaugural journey and adequate arrangement should be made to ensure there is no slip in their security," India's foreign ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar told media during a press briefing.
"We have requested Pakistani side that proper security, protocol and medical arrangements should be made for the dignitaries."
According to officials, dignitaries who will be crossing over from India to Kartarpur in Pakistan. The pilgrims will include former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, federal ministers Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Hardeep Singh Puri, besides several other lawmakers.
The Kartarpur Corridor, which provides a visa-free access to Indian Sikhs to visit Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan, will be inaugurated on Saturday by Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan to mark Sikhism founder Guru Nanak Dev's 550th birth anniversary.
The corridor will connect the Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Indian Punjab with Darbar Sahib at Kartarpur in Pakistan.
