HARARE, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Zimbabwe is seeking to increase the volume of fuel pumped into the country through the pipeline from Mozambique's Beira port to Harare.
This emerged on Thursday after talks between President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Carlos Mesquita, a special envoy of Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi.
Mesquita, who is also Mozambique's Minister of Transport and Communication, told reporters after the meeting that he had been sent by Nyusi to follow up on how the two countries could increase the volume of fuel to Zimbabwe from 1.6 million cubic meters per year to two million cubic meters per year.
"I was instructed by President Nyusi to come over and discuss further with the Government of Zimbabwe on the way forward," Mesquita said.
"What we have agreed with His Excellency the President (Mnangagwa) is that we need to continue further discussions which are going to be in Mozambique next week comprising Ministers of Transport and Communication and Mineral Resource and Energy from Mozambique and our counterparts from Zimbabwe," said Mesquita.
Zimbabwe is currently facing fuel shortages due to lack of foreign currency to import the commodity.
