NEW DELHI, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- India's "National Commission for Women (NCW)" on Friday strongly condemned an attack on an Indian Police Service (IPS) female officer by a group of lawyers earlier this month inside a court premises in Delhi.

In a letter written to the Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik, NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma urged for an immediate enquiry into the incident, and directed the former to reply within seven days.

A video gone viral on social media in the country over the past few days showed the lady police officer faced with a tough situation when during the clashes between Delhi Police and lawyers, the group of lawyers tried to grab her collar and charged at her. The lady police officer's personal security guards managed to escort her out of the scene.

Violent clashes erupted at Delhi's Tis Hazari Court premises on November 2 over a parking row. Several persons, including lawyers and cops, were injured in the clashes.

A deadlock between Delhi Police cops and lawyers has continued since the clashes.
