Namibia to promote, participate in BRI for common development: president

WINDHOEK, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Namibia will actively promote and participate in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and achieve common development, President Hage Geingob said here on Friday when he met with visiting Chinese Vice Premier Sun Chunlan.

Geingob said that for a long time, the two sides have shared mutual trust, mutual respect and mutual support.

The Namibian leaders pointed out that the all-weather friendly relationship has been deepened and promoted into a comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation, and the scope of cooperation has been expanding.

China is an important development partner of Namibia and Namibia will actively promote and participate in the BRI, he said.

Sun, who is in Namibia for a three-day visit, said China and Namibia are good friends, good partners and good brothers.

Under the guidance of the leaders of the two countries, China-Namibia relations have always maintained a healthy and stable development momentum, she said.

The cooperation in various fields has achieved fruitful results and the strategic and mutual benefits have become increasingly prominent, said the vice premier.

Sun noted that next year will mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

China is willing to take the opportunity to work with Namibia to maintain the momentum of high-level exchanges, continue to coordinate positions on issues concerning core interests and major concerns, align their development strategies, deepen pragmatic cooperation and elevate China-Namibia relationship to a higher level.

On Thursday, Sun held talks with Namibian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.
