SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- Hundreds of people including many youths on Sunday attended the annual Veterans Day Parade in the North Beach neighborhood in San Francisco to honor U.S. war veterans.

The one-mile (1.6 km) parade included a convoy of motorcycles roaring through the street of Fisherman's Wharf, a famous tourist attraction in San Francisco, and proceeded west to the reviewing stand at Leavenworth Street.

Many participants wearing colorful military uniforms of different eras or uniforms representing units they had served in the U.S. armed forces marched joyfully in the parade.

The event was organized by local members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the largest and oldest war veterans service organization in the United States, one day ahead of the Veterans Day, a U.S. public holiday that falls on Nov. 11 when World War I came to an end in 1918.

Local media said similar celebrations will also be held in other cities in north California on Monday to honor the U.S. veterans, including Alameda County and Petaluma city in Sonoma County.
