WINDHOEK, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Namibia Football Association (NFA) could start football activities without the Namibia Premier League (NPL), said the NFA's 15th Extra-Ordinary Congress on Saturday in Windhoek.

Currently the NPL which comprises of 16 clubs is no longer a member of the NFA, because of the breakdown in relationship between the NFA and the chairman of the NPL Patrick Kauta regarding the relegation and promotions of last season in which Orlando Pirates and Civics were relegated from top-flight football after they finished in 15th and 14th place respectively.

Young African, on the other hand, was kicked out of the league early this year after they were found guilty for fielding in a foreign player in a league match against Citizens football two seasons ago, including a fine of 50,000 Namibian dollars (3,367 U.S. dollars) while the case is still pending.

In an interview with Xinhua, secretary-general of the NFA, Franco Cosmo said the association is planning to go with its football activities such as the first and second division football leagues and the NFA/Debmarine cup.

"Congress is slated for February 2020 and after that football will continue with or without NPL. Football will not be held hostage by NPL," Cosmos said.
