University of Ghana lauds collaboration with Chinese universities

ACCRA, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- The collaboration with Chinese universities has generated immense benefits to the University of Ghana, Vice Chancellor of the university Ebenezer Oduro-Owusu said here Tuesday.

Oduro-Owusu made the remarks while meeting with Chinese Vice Minister of Education Tian Xuejun, who is here to discuss the future collaboration between Chinese universities and the University of Ghana.

The vice chancellor said the University of Ghana has conducted deep cooperation with the Chinese side, urging more Chinese students to come to the University of Ghana as a way of promoting cultural exchanges.

"Significantly, the Confucius Institute put up by the Chinese government has been an eye-opener, because it has led us into the Chinese culture and language," he said.

He added that Ghana also needs to learn from China's experience in developing information and communication technology as well as agriculture, so as to become self-sufficient in food production.

For his part, Tian lauded the smooth development of the Confucius Institute and its great achievements in Ghana over the past five years.

"In the future, the Confucius Institute can play a great role in strengthening educational cooperation between our two countries," Tian added.
