NAY PYI TAW, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar's Union Parliament on Monday agreed to a proposal on condemning the abduction of an ethnic parliamentarian in western Chin state and demanding unconditional release of him.

The proposal, submitted by a parliamentarian of Mandalay constituency last Wednesday, said the Arakan Army (AA)'s lawless acts made no contribution to the efforts by the government and any organization in seeking national reconciliation and domestic peace.

U Wai Thin, ethnic Chin parliamentarian to the House of Nationalities (Upper House ), was kidnapped along with several other people involved in the Kaladan River project when they traveled from Paletwa to Kyauktaw on Nov. 3.

The missing of the parliamentarian was termed as violating the state security.

It was the first time that a parliament member went missing in Myanmar.

All the abductees have been reportedly released on the next day except U Wai Thin.

AA, a Rakhine ethnic insurgent group founded on April 10, 2009, is operating in Myanmar's western state of Rakhine and northern state of Kachin along with Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and is a non-signatory to the government's Nationwide Ceasefire Accord (NCA) already signed by 10 ethnic armed groups.
