ISTANBUL, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- A total of 112 people, including military personnel, have been detained in Turkey over their alleged links to a group accused of masterminding a failed coup in 2016, local media reported Tuesday.
Simultaneous operations were launched by Turkish police in 45 provinces under the order of the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office in Izmir, which issued arrest warrants for 133 people with suspected links to a network headed by the U.S.-based Turkish cleric Fethullah Gulen, the state-run Anadolu Agency reported.
A total of 101 suspects have been captured so far, among whom are 82 soldiers and police officers in active service.
In a separate investigation, prosecutors issued detention warrants for 17 suspects from the Turkish Air Forces, including serving and expelled soldiers, said Haberturk, an online news portal.
So far, 11 of them were captured in simultaneous operations launched in five provinces, it added.
All of the suspects allegedly contacted the Gulen network via pay phones, according to press reports.
The Turkish government accuses Gulen and his network of being behind a failed military coup in July 2016, in which about 250 people were killed.
