China provides humanitarian assistance to people in Myanmar's northern state

YANGON, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- China has provided humanitarian assistance in health and educational development for people in Myanmar's Kachin state.

The Chinese Embassy in Myanmar handed over the commodities and equipment to respective local organizations in Myitkyina, capital of Kachin state, on Wednesday.

Speaking at the donation ceremony, Chinese Ambassador Chen Hai said that humanitarian assistance is part of the cooperation plan on China-Myanmar Economic Corridor and hoped that such assistance from China would be effective for the development of people in Kachin state.

Chen also pledged continued assistance to Myanmar and further cooperation to assist Myanmar to achieve eternal peace in northern part of the country including Kachin state.

Under the humanitarian assistance program, hospital and medical equipment is donated to Kachin state's General Hospital, Heath and Treatment Department and Free Medical Treatment Foundation.

Projector equipment, audio system and computers were provided to the state's Myitkyina University and commodities including rice, cooking oil and blankets to Myitkyina School for the Blinds and an orphanage named "New Hope Family Residence."

Kachin state's Social Affairs Minister U Nay Win expressed his thanks to China for its assistance in the health and educational development for local people who are in need during the period of building democratic federal union in Myanmar.
