TIRANA, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- Albanian capital city Tirana was announced as the winner of the European Youth Capital (EYC) title for 2022, the Municipality of Tirana said in a press release on Friday.
According to the press release, the award ceremony was held on Thursday evening in Amiens city of France that will take the title of European Youth Capital in 2020.
Tirana was chosen from a shortlist of five finalist cities including Baia Mare (Romania), Kazan (Russia), Poznan (Poland) and Varazdin (Croatia).
According to the press release, the award ceremony in Amiens was attended by French President Emmanuel Macron.
In her remarks, Carina Autengruber, President of the European Youth Forum stressed the commitment Tirana has shown to deserve this recognition, as a city where young people are in the spotlight.
Mayor of Tirana Erion Veliaj, who headed the delegation from Tirana Municipality in Amiens, in a Twitter post on Friday, shared the news that Tirana was announced as the 2022 winner of the EYC title.
The city of Klaipeda in Lithuania has been chosen as European youth capital for 2021.
