THE HAGUE, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- The Court of Appeal in The Hague said on Friday that the judge can not oblige the Dutch state to recover Dutch IS (the Islamic State) women and children from Syria.
The decision (whether to repatriate them) is up to politicians but not the judge, the Court of Appeal ruled in an urgent appeal.
A district court ruled last week that the Dutch state must actively help repatriate 56 children to the Netherlands.
The lawsuit were launched by 23 Dutch women who had joined the IS. Their 56 Dutch children are living in detention camps in northeastern Syria, according to local media reports.
Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte responded with satisfaction to the outcome during his weekly press session in The Hague. "We are working on the possibility of trials in the region," Rutte said.
