WINDHOEK, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- Namibia's President Hage Geingob has said his country is going to redouble efforts to reduce inequalities and fight corruption.

Geingob was addressing the nation and thanking them for voting for him to lead for a second term.

"A new chapter has been opened within the country's political sphere. I am aware of the despair of the impoverished and the unemployed, especially the young people, who have voted in such large numbers. We will redouble efforts to reduce inequalities," Geingob said Monday.

He added that his government would also intensify the fight against corruption.

"Corruption diverts public resources intended for development. In my second term, I will make sure to root out corruption," Geingob said.

Geingob will be the president for the next five years.
