ISLAMABAD, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Police in Pakistan's northwestern city of Peshawar said on Wednesday that they have foiled a terror plan and arrested five members of a terrorist network including a woman.

Superintendent of Police in Peshawar Shoaib Khan told a news conference that the woman was trying to shift the explosives for terrorist acts to a public place in Lahore, the capital of Punjab province.

Khan said that the woman was arrested on Monday while four other people were also arrested on her information extracted during interrogation. He said the police conducted further raids after the arrests.

"The woman could not carry out terrorist acts in Peshawar due to security alert and wanted to transfer the explosives to Lahore. However, the police in an intelligence-based operation arrested her," the police officer said.

He said that the terrorist network was operating from neighboring Afghanistan, adding the woman and four others have been handed over to the Counter-Terrorism Department in Peshawar for further investigation.

Pakistani security officials say that Pakistani militants have moved to Afghanistan as the result of military operations in the country's tribal districts, bordering Afghanistan, over the past few years.
