BANGKOK, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- The strong northeast monsoon currently hitting Southern Thailand has on Wednesday forced the closure of six waterfalls in Southern Province of Nakhon Si Thammarat.

"We are announcing the temporary closure of Phrom Lok, Ai Khiao, Karom, Tha Phae, Krung Ching and Nuea Fa waterfalls due to the heavy torrential rains and the run-offs," said Wikran Thuakao, chief of the Khao Luang National Park in Nakhon Si Thammarat.

Wikran also warned communities situated downstream of possible runoffs.

Meanwhile, the 4th Army in Nakhon Si Thammarat said they are prepared to provide assistance to flood victims with drinking water and temporary shelters should the flood situation worsen.

On Tuesday Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha instructed state agencies to provide immediate assistance to flood victims in Thailand's deep southern province of Narathiwat where 41,369 people have been affected.
