KHARTOUM, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- Sudanese government on Thursday welcomed the decision by the U.S. to raise diplomatic representation to the level of ambassadors.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has received with interest the statements made by the U.S. State Secretary regarding agreement with Sudan to begin the process of exchanging ambassadors," said Sudan's Foreign Ministry in a statement.
This indicated the trend to strengthen the bilateral relations in support of the transitional government in Sudan, it added.
U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Wednesday announced a decision to upgrade diplomatic representation with Sudan to the level of ambassadors.
This will be the first time in 23 years for the two sides to exchange ambassadors, tweeted Pompeo.
