NUR-SULTAN, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- A Sino-Kazakh genetic laboratory opened in Nazarbayev University in Kazakhstan's capital here, said Kanat Baigarin, advisor to the university's president, at an opening ceremony on Wednesday.

Baigarin said the genetic lab, jointly developed by China's Microread Genetics company and Nazarbayev University, is the first of its kind in Central Asia, and would increase research potential for the university.

"As an international research university, Nazarbayev University wants to develop precision medicine, in which genetics plays a key role. This area is very important for us," said Ilesanmi Adesida, provost of the university.

Beijing-based Microread Genetics signed a memorandum of understanding with Nazarbayev University in August last year, which aims to jointly built a genetic laboratory here.
