SOFIA, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) -- Guest lecturers from east China's Jiangxi province held a presentation on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) here on Monday at an event meant to establish bilateral cooperation in this field.

The event, organized by the Bulgarian National Science Fund (BNSF) with the assistance of the Chinese Embassy in Bulgaria and the Department of Organic Chemistry and Pharmacognosy at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski," was attended by over 30 university professors, scientists and practicing physicians.

Professor Georgi Vayssilov, president and manager of the BNSF, said he hoped it would be the first step towards cooperation "in this very interesting and very important field of research."

The BNSF had very strong relations with the Chinese Embassy in Bulgaria, China's Ministry of Science and Technology and the Natural Science Foundation of China. It plans to organize joint conferences on different fields of research in order to help research communities know each other and to promote further cooperation, Vayssilov said.

"TCM is a national treasure of China and we are delighted to share it with the Bulgarian people," said Gai Hongbo, first secretary (science and technology) at the Chinese Embassy in Sofia.

Gai said she hoped the TCM can contribute to public health in Bulgaria.

Xie Guanghua, general director of the TCM administration of Jiangxi province, said that Jiangxi has a comprehensive TCM services system, and TCM visits account for 30 percent of all medical visits, Xie said.

Xie said he hoped that experts from Bulgaria would visit Jiangxi to strengthen cooperation in the field of TCM. =
