PHNOM PENH, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian authorities had arrested 18,965 drug-related suspects in 9,055 cases so far this year, according to an Interior Ministry's anti-drug department report on Tuesday.
From Jan. 1 to Dec. 8, 2019, some 10,287 people were nabbed for alleged drug trafficking and 8,678 were caught for drug use, the report said, adding that 381 of them are foreigners in 12 nationalities.
"A total of 676.7 kilograms of illicit drugs and 99.9 kilograms of dry marijuana were seized from those suspects," the report said.
In the entirety of 2018, the Southeast Asian country arrested 16,232 suspects in 8,018 drug-related cases and confiscated more than 533 kilograms of illicit drugs.
Cambodia has no death sentence for drug traffickers. Under its law, someone found guilty of trafficking more than 80 grams of illicit drug could be jailed for life.
