KIGALI, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Rwanda's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 11.9 percent in the third quarter of 2019 compared to the same quarter in 2018, figures released on Thursday showed.

Agriculture grew at 8 percent, industry grew at 14 percent while the service sector grew at 13 percent, said Yusuf Murangwa, director general of National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda, while releasing the figures in Rwanda's capital Kigali.

Services continued to lead contribution to GDP with 49 percent compared to 27 percent and 17 percent shares for agriculture and industry respectively, said Murangwa.

Murangwa said export crops growth was 22 percent owing to growth in tea that increased by 29 percent and coffee that increased by 22 percent.

Air transport increased by 18 percent, according to him.

Mining and quarrying activities decreased by 16 percent attributable to drops of 25 percent, 34 percent and 42 percent in exports of cassiterite, wolfram and coltan minerals respectively, he said.

Rwanda's GDP is projected to grow by 8.5 percent in 2019 and 8.1 percent in 2020, the country's central bank said in November.
