COPENHAGEN, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- The Danish government proposes to send a frigate, complete with a helicopter and up to 155 service personnel, to the Strait of Hormuz for four months from the autumn of 2020, Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod and Defense Minister Trine Bramsen said following a meeting of the country's Foreign Policy Committee on Thursday.

"Denmark is the world's fifth largest shipping nation, so we have a particular interest and responsibility in ensuring maritime security, including in the Strait of Hormuz," said Kofod.

The Danish deployment will operate in collaboration with the U.S.-led security mission in the region, the International Maritime Security Construct (IMSC), according to the two politicians.

The Danish government will submit the proposal to parliament before the naval deployment.
