Indian Navy chief on four-day visit to Sri Lanka

NEW DELHI, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Indian Navy Chief Admiral Karambir Singh will be visiting Sri Lanka on Dec. 19-22, sources in the Defence Ministry confirmed on Thursday.

The visit is intended to consolidate and enhance the bilateral maritime relations between the two neighboring countries.

During his visit, Singh will hold bilateral discussions with his Lankan counterpart Vice Admiral K.K.V.P.H. De Silva and other Service Chiefs and senior Government officials, added the sources.

The Indian Navy chief will also interact with the Sri Lanka Navy Board of Management which comprises of senior hierarchy of the Sri Lanka Navy.

Besides, he will also take part as the Chief Guest in the Commissioning and Passing Out Parade of the 60th Intake Midshipmen scheduled to be conducted at Naval Maritime Academy in Trincomalee on Dec. 22.

According to an official statement, the Indian Navy regularly interacts with Sri Lanka Navy through the Staff Talks, Annual Defence Dialogue and other operational interactions which includes port visits, passage exercises, training and hydrography.
