SYDNEY, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- A Christmas-themed climate protest blocked one of Sydney's busiest streets on Friday morning, leading to the arrest of multiple activists, many of whom had glued themselves to the ground.

Dressed as reindeer, elves and even a Santa Clause styled to look like Prime Minister Scott Morrison, protestors blocked the central thoroughfare of Pitt Street, disrupting countless worker's morning commutes.

From a makeshift sleigh, "Santa Clause Morrison" delivered what looked like coal, which was also scattered across the ground.

Police used acetone and bolt cutters to break up the demonstration, with reports on social media suggesting at least six people were arrested.

The protest was organised by the environmental group Extinction Rebellion and involved more than 50 people, calling on the government to step up action on climate change.

"Our rebel elves showed more climate leadership at this action than the government has shown in its entire existence," the group posted on social media.

Criticism of Morrison's approach to climate change have ramped up throughout the ongoing bushfire crisis which continues to threaten lives and property across the state of New South Wales.
