PUL-E-KHUMRI, Afghanistan, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- Ten militants were killed in two separate premature blasts of their own mines in the northern Baghlan province on Friday, provincial police spokesman Ahmad Jawed Basharat said.

The first deadly blast took place in Dand-e-Ghori area outside provincial capital Pul-e-Khumri when the militants were taking some mines to plant on a road to strike security personnel but the devices went off accidentally killing six insurgents on the spot and wounding two others, Basharat said.

Basharat also added that the militants were taking a motorbike bomb to Pul-e-Khumri city on Friday to target the civilians, but the explosive device exploded on the way to the city killing four insurgents on the spot.

An army spokesman in the restive Baghlan province, Ghulam Hazrat Karimi has also confirmed the blasts, saying 10 insurgents were killed in their own bomb blasts before reaching their targets.

Taliban militants who are active in parts of Baghlan province haven't commented.
