ABUJA, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- Nigerian military airstrikes destroyed some more logistics facilities belonging to terror group Boko Haram during an operation in the northern state of Borno, an air force spokesman said on Friday.

Ibikunle Daramola, the air force's spokesman, said the airstrikes targeted selected locations within the northeast region of Nigeria to further degrade remnants of Boko Haram, as well as deny them safe havens and freedom of action.

Daramola said the operation was executed at Bakare, an island settlement within the Lake Chad green fringes, noting fighter jets attacked and destroyed some compounds where the Boko Haram logistics stores were kept.

The target locations were seen to erupt into flames upon the impact of the aircraft munitions, he said.

The operation, he added, was specifically initiated to neutralize some pre-designated insurgent camps and logistics facilities.
